VEB-Leasing files suit against Boeing over 22 737 MAX planes

MOSCOW, Dec 19 (PRIME) -- Timaero Ireland Limited, a subsidiary of VEB-Leasing, a leasing unit of Russia’s VEB.RF, has filed a suit to the federal court of Illinois against Boeing to void a supply contract for 22 Boeing 737 MAX planes, VEB.RF said in a statement quoting Igor Krasnov, senior vice president of the development corporation’s legal department.

“Timaero Ireland Limited, part of the group of VEB-Leasing controlled by VEB.RF, has filed a suit to the federal court of Illinois demanding termination of a contract signed with the Boeing company on the delivery of 22 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, refunds of prepayments, and compensation of losses because of the producer’s intentional concealment of information about air worthiness and safety of the aircraft,” Krasnov said.

“This measure was a forced and only way to protect the rights and legal interests of Timaero after repeated attempts of the company to settle the situation out of court in a spirit of free will and responsible partnership, which found no reaction in the Boeing Company, unfortunately.”

Flights of all 737 MAX aircraft were suspended in March following two major crashes of the planes in late 2018. Malfunctions of one of the plane’s systems were likely to be the cause of the crashes. In mid-December, Boeing decided to suspend production of 737 MAX aircraft from January 2020.
